What is QISMET?
QISMET (Quality Institute for Self Management Education and Training) is an independent body created in 2008 as a result of the shared recognition of self-management education provider organisations (statutory, voluntary and private sector alike) that a good quality benchmark for quality assurance is essential to secure the quality and consistency of service provision. This required agreed good practice standards and an accreditation process, both of which QISMET provides.

QISMET is an independent and values-driven not-for-profit organisation that:
- Develops and manage standards and accreditation processes for a range of self-management education and training services
- Supports self-management education and training providers to build capacity and expertise for continuous improvement
- Provides expert advice to organisations in the sector
- Promotes the involvement of people living with long-term conditions, professionals, and organisations in the development and implementation of self-management education and training

Meet The Team
Graham Baker
Director
Graham has a degree in maths, operational research statistics and economics. His first career was in Trading Standards in local government. He there gained an interest in quality assurance and set up a consultancy specialising in the provision of quality advice and training for the not-for-profit sector in quality improvement issues. In the past 30 years he has worked with over 600 organisations, helping them improve the quality of service provision through the use of quality tools.
Graham was instrumental in the setting up of QISMET, developing its quality standards and accreditation processes. He is a lead auditor in all major quality standards.
In his spare time he has worked extensively in the voluntary sector, having been a trustee for many charities, a school governor and chair of his local council. He is now the chair of his local village hall and village fete.
Suzanne Lucas
Lead Consultant
Suzanne has a degree in Social Sciences and Administration from LSE and trained as a nurse. She worked for Diabetes UK for 20 years and was their Director of Research and Care. She now works as an independent consultant. She co-chaired the joint Department of Health/Diabetes UK Patient Education Working Group which produced the report on Structured Patient Education in Diabetes and was commissioned to project manage the Structured Patient Education Development Toolkit for the Department of Health and Diabetes UK.
Suzanne has been trained to deliver X-PERT, X-PERT Insulin and DESMOND and was a provider of diabetes education for Type 2 diabetes for 3 years for her local CCG. She has managed several different diabetes education services. She has carried out needs assessments, strategic reviews, option appraisals and Expert External Peer Reviews for various diabetes education programmes including those in Thames Valley, Berkshire West, Poole and Bournemouth, Brighton, Eastbourne, Camberley and East Kent.
