Phil lives in Oxford and read law at Warwick University. After 10 years working in marketing and promotions in the music industry, there followed 16 years in various roles at Oxfam, including Head of Campaigns, where he was a co-founder of the DfID sponsored Ethical Trading Initiative, and then two years as CEO of Voluntary Action Swindon. He was a director for 10 years and finally acting CEO at Arthritis Care. Before retiring in December 2017, he was Director of Commissioned Services at NRAS.
As trustee Phil has been involved with organisations including Minority Rights Group International, South West Forum, the Royal National Hospital Foundation Trust (Bath), Youth Action Swindon, CAB board, The Learning Curve, and a Local Strategic Partnership board. He was the co-founder/chair of Creative Exchange, an international culture and development NGO, and is currently a board member of the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership.
