Phil lives in Oxford and read law at Warwick University. During his early career, he spent 10 years working in marketing and promotions for the music industry. This was followed by 16 years in various roles at Oxfam including Head of Campaigns, where he was a co-founder of the DfID sponsored Ethical Trading Initiative, and then two years as CEO of Voluntary Action Swindon. Prior to his current role at NRAS, he was a director and acting CEO at Arthritis Care. As trustee Phil has been involved with organisations including Minority Rights Group International, South West Forum, the Royal National Hospital Foundation Trust (Bath), Youth Action Swindon, CAB board, The Learning Curve, Local Strategic Partnership board. He was the founder/chair of Creative Exchange, an international culture and development NGO, and is currently founder/chair of the Quality Institute for Self-Management Education & Training and a board member of HQIP – Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership.
